Course Description (Printable Summer Course Flyer)

The goal of the Biophysical Society Summer Course is to provide minority (US citizen or permanent resident) or Canadian aboriginal students an introduction to the field of biophysics through performing cutting-edge biological research and intense coursework experience. Students will have the opportunity to carry out independent research projects under the guidance of a UNC faculty mentor. This intense 11-week program will provide students with a realistic view of graduate school and careers in biophysics.

  • College credits toward undergraduate degree

Students are given a thorough introduction to course and lab experience.

Prerequisites:

  • Studying quantitative science: chemistry, physics, biochemistry, computer science
  • 1 semester of biology (strongly recommended, not required)
  • 2 semesters of calculus-level physics
  • 3.0 cumulative or higher GPA in science courses
  • Must be a minority* undergraduate student residing permanently in the U.S. or citizen of U.S., or Canadian aboriginal undergraduate student

    *Eligible individuals from groups underrepresented in the biomedical research enterprise of this Nation. These individuals include but are not limited to: African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives and citizens of the      U. S. Pacific Islands. Gender is not a criterion.
