This Biophysics Week, we're highlighting some of the outstanding members of our Student Chapter program. Today, we'll hear from Soumya Dutta, a Chemistry Major at the Arizona State University Biophysical Society Student Chapter.
What inspired you to study biophysics?
I have always been interested in computers and human biology. The action of medicines on human body had always fascinated me, and that led me to pursue the study of drug-protein interaction and thereby biophysics.
What do you think makes the study of biophysics unique?
The study of biophysics is unique because it combines principles and techniques from both physics and biology to understand biological systems at various levels of organization, from molecules to organisms.
What skill have you learned in your studies that you find useful in other aspects of your life?
Learning the ins and outs of a computer, coding and debugging code have helped me greatly in many other aspects of life.
What is your dream career?
My dream career is to run my own biophysics lab.
What advice do you have for someone thinking about studying biophysics?
My advice is to foster a strong foundation in physics, biology, mathematics, and computer science. Embrace interdisciplinary learning and seek practical experience in laboratory settings to develop essential skills in experimentation and analysis.
