University of California, Berkeley, will receive the 2025 Michael and Kate Bárány Award. Garcia will be honored at the Society’s 69th Annual Meeting, being held in Los Angeles, California from February 15-19, 2025.
Garcia will be recognized for his outstanding contributions to quantitative developmental biology and his creative use of advanced microscopies and theory to characterize and follow transversally the control of transcription in the Drosophila embryo.
“I am delighted that Hernan is being recognized for his quantitative description of developmental mechanisms and for his contributions to the Biophysical Society community,” said BPS President Gabriela Popescu of the University of Buffalo. “He provides an inspirational example of how biophysicists can use their rigorous physics training to address fundamental problems in biology. We are excited to follow his career and achievements in future.”
About the Award – The Michael and Kate Bárány Award recognizes an outstanding contribution to biophysics by a person who has not achieved the rank of full professor at the time of nomination. In recognition of the endowment gift from Michael and Kate Bárány, the award was renamed in 1998.
