ROCKVILLE, MD – The Biophysical Society is pleased to announce that Karen G. Fleming, PhD, of Johns Hopkins University, will receive the 2023 Avanti Award in Lipids. Fleming will be honored at the Society’s 67th Annual Meeting in San Diego, California, February 18-22, 2023.
Fleming is recognized for her groundbreaking contributions to our fundamental understanding of membrane protein stability, folding, biogenesis and insertion through development and application of novel experimental tools that quantify membrane protein folding kinetics and thermodynamics.
“The Avanti Award allows the Society to highlight and reflect on a researcher’s contributions to the biophysics of lipids,” said BPS President Gail Robertson, University of Wisconsin-Madison. “Karen’s dedication to pushing scientific boundaries has succeeded in revealing fundamental insights into the kinetics and thermodynamics of membrane proteins. We look forward to honoring her work and expanding the legacy by which she will be remembered by future biophysicists.”
