Dear Colleagues, Friends, and Students,
We cordially invite you to attend the Biophysical Society Conference Proton Reactions: From Basic Science to Biomedical Applications to be held August 3-8, 2025, at the Holiday Inn Estes Park in Colorado.
Proton transport is part of many biological processes such as pH regulation, membrane potential changes, proton-coupled transport across membranes, enzymatic reactions, energy storage and release, etc. Disruption of pH homeostasis has been observed in several pathological conditions (e.g., cytoplasmic acidification in ischemia). Protonation dynamics are of interest for substrate binding and consequently for drug design. The mechanisms of proton transport have long been one of the most important research topics in biophysics. A number of different methods, models, and approaches are used. For this reason, we have invited many international speakers with a wide range of expertise to present their latest exciting discoveries related to the proton reactions. More than 24 slots will also be reserved for young and contributed researchers to present their results in short talks selected from the abstracts.
The first highly successful event in this conference series, organized by Ana-Nicoleta Bondar and Tom DeCoursey in the Summer of 2023, was held at Granlibakken Resort in Lake Tahoe, California. For 2025 we have chosen Estes Park, Colorado, which is a beautiful small mountain town within a reasonable distance from the Denver International Airport. It is also known as the starting point for many hiking trails in the Rocky Mountain National Park, which is home to 14,000 ft peaks, beautiful mountain lakes, and abundant wildlife such as elk, deer, and bears. When designing the program, we reserved several time slots for outings and fruitful scientific discussions in the fresh mountain air.
To become a part of our proton community, please visit our website and take a look at the list of invited speakers and the program at a glance. Please also share this information with colleagues and students who may be interested in presenting their research and networking with colleagues. Please note that the deadline to submit an abstract is April 14, 2025, and the early registration deadline is May 5, 2025. Abstract submission is free and short talks will be selected from among submitted abstracts.
We look forward to your participation in this stimulating conference!
