COVID-19: Science, Stories, and Resources

Science Articles

The Biophysical Society is sharing science articles to help educate and communicate information about the rapidly evolving findings and effects of COVID-19.

We are halfway through the BPS2023 meeting and have participated in several sessions! How is networking coming along?

We are here today to evaluate our expectations

Multiple platforms offered: We have participated in several interactive platforms, including the opening mixer, breakfast for undergraduate/graduate/postdoctoral, a new member welcome coffee, and symposium/platforms speeches. Moreover, BPS has finished its task; it is now up to us to continue our journey.

Language is not a barrier! By this point, we must be got that networking at BPS can take place regardless of our proficiency in a language or cultural background. Individuals are kind, attentive to the speaker, and open to discussing their research. If everything is incredible, you must have achieved your goal! Did you?

Break inertia! Many arrangements are made during interactive sessions due to the intricacy of BPS. At the new member welcoming coffee, a friend got a table with the specialists in their relevant field and talked about multiple aspects of the area. However, I was seated with a group of 2D-IR and TIRF microscopy experts at welcoming coffee. I was initially nervous because I had a hard time understanding it. Hence, I had to overcome my inertia to comprehend what they were saying. I attentively questioned them about their work in detail, and they patiently explained their science to me. Hence, the complexity of BPS meetings is also the beauty of BPS meetings; it breaks our previously held inertia and keeps us up to date on the latest discoveries in biophysics.

Science is our language of communication; it enables us to interact with one another at events like BPS. A comprehensive understanding would aid in better understanding biological problems and developing feasible solutions leveraging biophysics.

Here are a few tricks to make you comfortable in the following scientific gatherings!

~ Attend one or two speeches from each session, at the very least. Ask someone in the area for assistance if you still need help understanding.

~ Look at posters at various sessions. Once you have understood one or two posters from other disciplines, you will feel more at ease while approaching social meetings.

~ Your BPS preparation begins long before you get to the meeting! Last night's BPS special lecture is a great illustration of accepting that research has become an integration of many fields. Start listening to your colleagues' research at your institute/on LinkedIn/Twitter, or anywhere you choose.

This training will prepare you to reach a new milestone at the upcoming meetings!
