ROCKVILLE, MD – The Biophysical Society is pleased to announce that Elizabeth A. Jonas, MD, of Yale University School of Medicine, has been named the recipient of the 2025 BPS Award in the Biophysics of Health and Disease. Jonas will be honored at the Society’s 69th Annual Meeting, being held in Los Angeles, California from February 15-19, 2025.
Jonas is being recognized for her groundbreaking research in biophysics and neuroscience and her continuous service to the Biophysical Society's Bioenergetics, Mitochondria, and Metabolism Subgroup.
“Elizabeth has an unparalleled level of drive, curiosity, focus and motivation toward discovery, which she has focused successfully on uncovering the molecular basis of neurological diseases,” said BPS President Gabriela Popescu of the University of Buffalo. “Elizabeth created a new field of research and established herself as a leader, while also acting as a mentor and supportive colleague to a new generation of researchers.”
About the Award – The Biophysics of Health and Disease Award, established by the Biophysical Society, honors significant contribution to understanding the fundamental cause or pathogenesis of disease, or to enabling the treatment or prevention.
