ROCKVILLE, MD – The Biophysical Society is pleased to announce that Julia Mahamid, PhD, of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, will receive the 2024 Michael and Kate Bárány Award. Mahamid will be honored at the Society’s 68th Annual Meeting, being held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from February 10-14, 2024.

Mahamid is being recognized for her profound contributions, both technical and biological, to the field of cryo-electron tomography. “The Biophysical Society is committed to creating opportunities for researchers to advance their scientific careers,” said BPS President Taekjip Ha of Harvard Medical School. “Julia is set to be a leader in the emerging field of in-situ structural biology. She will no doubt continue to thrive and lead a new generation alongside her. We are excited to follow her career and achievements in future.”
