Devarajan Thirumalai to Receive Biophysical Society’s 2025 Founders Award

ROCKVILLE, MD – The Biophysical Society is pleased to announce that Devarajan Thirumalai, PhD, of The University of Texas at Austin, will receive the Society’s 2025 Founders Award. Thirumalai will be honored at the Society’s 69th Annual Meeting, being held in Los Angeles, California from February 15-19, 2025.

Thirumalai is being honored for developing and applying theoretical concepts and novel simulations to solve a bewildering array of problems in biophysics for 30 years.

“I am delighted that Devarajan is being recognized with this year’s Founders Award.”  said BPS President Gabriela Popescu of the University of Buffalo. “This distinction allows us to call attention to those whose sustained and remarkable achievements in biophysics best embody our values and achievements. Through his many fundamental contributions to important biological problems, Dave has transformed the field of theoretical biology and represents our community with honor”.

About the Award - The Founders Award is given to scientists for outstanding achievement in any area of biophysics, often reflected in the acceptance of and use by others in the field, either promptly or over a period of years.
