DNA STORY: A Play about Discovering the Structure of DNA
3/24/2025 - 3/28/2025 Streaming on YouTube
DNA STORY is a video recording of a play about the discovery of the structure of DNA by Watson&Crick and Franklin and Wilkins. Unlike many of the other performative versions of these events, DNA STORY is packed with science elements – including discussionsof how crystallography works, chemistry of the nucleic acid bases, the work of Hershey&Chase, how A and B form DNA interconvert, which data for the model came from Franklin, Wilkins, Jerry Donahue, and Erwin Chargaff – among much more. We’ve also done some assessment of whether audiences learn any science from the video (via a 20 question multiple choice quiz) and found that indeed they do.
Early Career Investigators (ECIs) Meet an Expert: Prof. Dr. Josef Lazar A Biophysicist from First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, Czech Republic
3/27/2025 Virtual Event Hessen, Germany
At the ECI GPCR forum Zoominar on March 27th, we will host Prof. Dr. Josef Lazar from the Institute of Biology and Medical Genetics, First Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. Dr. Josef Lazar is a well-known biophysicist, working on developing advanced optical microscopy and techniques. He uses these technologies to gain information about the mechanisms of molecular processes taking place in living cells and organisms.
During the 75-minute session, we will be hearing about Dr. Lazar's research and career path. This online event is a part of the GPCR ECI Zoominar series run by early career investigators (ECIs). It was initiated to keep the network of ECIs formed during GLISTEN (CM1207) and ERNEST (CA18133) COST Actions connected. These series have been running since early 2023 and are highly recognized by the community. The event is online and free of charge. Participants working on GPCRs (G protein-coupled receptors) with any background from around the globe are welcome to join the session. They benefit from the experience of a true expert and take advantage of this unique opportunity to ask their questions directly from a senior scientist.
