Ion channels have well described roles in excitable cells. They are also known to be expressed in non-excitable cells but their functional contributions are generally poorly characterized. Although hundreds of ion channels have been described, there remain ‘new’ ion channels to be discovered. The goal of this virtual event is to highlight recent findings that help us to better understand ion channel diversity.
The featured presentations will discuss research on new ion channels that span a variety of tissues, cellular compartments and gating mechanisms. These proteins include a new mitochondrial KATP channel composed of MITOK and MITOSUR subunits, the proton-activated chloride (PAC) channel, the ion channel TACAN (TMEM120A) involved in sensing of mechanical pain and the heteromeric LRRC8A:C anion channel, which mediates uptake of cyclic dinucleotide immunotransmitters.
The symposiums four seminar-style presentations will be 20 minutes long each folloed by a 10 minute Q/A session. Attendance of the symposium is free, but registration is required.
