Beyond English as the Language of Science: A Multilingual Biophysics Networking Event aims to create space for biophysicists to build community with others by gathering together to communicate in languages other than English.
While having a common language for scientific discourse can in some cases help improve communication between scientists from different backgrounds, not making space for people to talk about scientific ideas, career, and culture in their own language can exclude certain ways of thinking, and even result in the loss of knowledge from other cultural backgrounds.
Join us on Wednesday, 20 March 2024, from 9:00-10:00 AM US Eastern Time, to connect with the biophysics community in a new way!
Moderated breakout rooms focused on Japanese and Mandarin will be available. If you would like to serve as a moderator for a breakout room focused on a language not mentioned, please contact [email protected].
There will also be a session at 12:00 PM US Eastern Time for those who would like to connect in Spanish, French, German, Turkish, Persian, Italian, and Communication for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Scientists (with ASL interpreters).
